高野山 Koyasan

Koyasan is a monastery complex in the hills to the East of Wakayama. It is home to Shingon Buddhism, an esoteric sect. The town built up around the monasteries is a popular spot for both Japanese and international tourists. To get there we took a train that went up at a very steep grade, and then a tram that climbed the rest of the canyon. The blurry textured picture is from the rain covered window of the tram.
