We have lived in Japan for a year and a half working as English teachers. This site showcases pictures and stories for friends and family, as well as some potentially useful information for new English teachers in Japan.

電車 Trains

The trains here are very nice, especially the "bullet trains." Even the regular commuter trains have velvet heated seats if you are lucky or quick enough to get one. The trains are almost always on time to the minute, which is handy when trying to figure out which train to get on in a foreign language.

For the visitor:
The rail pass is worth every penny if you plan to travel around. The regular tickets are very expensive. There is a website that gives all the train information in English http://grace.hyperdia.com/cgi-english/hyperd01.cgi . remember that the pass is good for the bus to, here is bus schedule info http://www.bus.or.jp/kousoku_e/index.html .

Here is a short video of the endless suburbs flying by outside the window of the Shinkansen.
